How do we solve the current Energy Crisis?
a. Offshore drilling. (Republicans)
b. Invest in renewable sources of energy. (Democrats)
c. All the above. (What most voters want)
d. None of the above. (What Congress has accomplished)
Energy has become the latest political football and we (the public) are watching while our elected officials argue and do nothing. Oh wait I’m sorry, that last statement is not true, they’re actually making it worse, thanks Washington.
Energy along with climate change should not be a political issue. The worker who travels to work earning $7 an hour and paying $4 a gallon for gas knows this better than anyone.
Something else to contemplate! If the oil companies manage to get permission for offshore drilling do you think they will sell it exclusively in the USA? Only a fool would think they would sell to the lowest bidder out of national loyalty. That oil will go to the customer (or country) willing to pay the highest price. It’s a concept called supply & demand and despite what the conspiracy camp thinks, that’s what is in play here. The immediate answer to this current energy dilemma is
more supply and
less demand on a global scale. The long term answer is renewable-no emission alternative energy.
Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post has an interesting take on this issue:
